What is Zim Process Viewer?
Zim Process Viewer is a lightweight macOS utility that lets you view, inspect, and terminate the processes running on your Mac. It shows memory usage, CPU time, uptime, and more.
How do I kill a process by port?
Click Quick Actions → Kill Process on Port..., enter the port number (e.g. 8080), and click Find. The app will show you the process name and PID listening on that port and ask for confirmation before killing it.
Why are some processes marked "System"?
Critical system processes (such as WindowServer, loginwindow, Dock, and Finder) are protected and cannot be killed to prevent accidentally making your Mac unresponsive. Only processes owned by your user are eligible for termination.
What does "Clear Cache" do?
The Clear Cache button runs the macOS purge command to free up inactive memory. It will
prompt for your administrator password via a standard macOS security dialog. This is normal and
expected.
Does the app collect my data?
No. Zim Process Viewer does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Everything runs locally on your Mac. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Which macOS version is required?
Zim Process Viewer requires macOS 26.2 or later.
